Canada's Yellow Pages Group (YPG) Entering the US Market

YPG from Canada is coming to the US, through an acquisition of Volt Information Services. It sounds like it's mostly for their technology/Internet assets, although they do have a bit of print business as well. From what I've heard, YPG is usually pretty aggressive and on the frontlines when it comes to Online, so it will be interesting to see how this manifests itself in the US.

  1. Unless they offer a online only platform (and lose the high paid sales reps who expect to sell high dollar ads), I don't see them doing well. Online only plays have to be cheap, and YPG is still clinging to their print business model.

Honestly, it's still not clear who's going to come out first in the online world- the traditional companies have name recognition on their side, but they move slowly and resist things like wiki-style user generated content and user reviews because of their advertisers. I threw my lot in with Brownbook.net, but we'll see :)
